Gavin Hunt Confirms New SuperSport Captain
Following the departure of captain/goalkeeper Ronwen Williams from SuperSport United, coach Gavin Hunt has appointed a new skipper in his stead.
Last week, SuperSport confirmed in a statement that Williams – who has been playing with the club since 2010 – was joining Mamelodi Sundowns on a permanent transfer deal.
Speaking to the media during the DStv Premiership launch in Johannesburg on Thursday, 28 July, Hunt revealed that Zimbabwean left-back, Onismor Bhasera, will now captain Matsatsantsa as they head into the new PSL season.
“He has the experience, he is a great professional,” explained Hunt. “He is a leader and I think he will take the role on … It’s important for someone to come in and be verbal and keep standards as high as possible, which is not only on the field, but off the field … He has my full support.”
Bhasera also shared his thoughts about his appointment: “It is a big responsibility. SuperSport is a big club, but I’ve got to take it with both hands, and I will obviously have to go out there and lead by example.
“I need to bring my A-game, so it’s going to be an interesting season.”
